targeted ads...

“Facebook will be launching new features next week that allow advertisers to target their ads to customers based on contact information that the advertiser has already collected.” -  http://techcrunch.com/2012/08/30/facebook-ads-email-phone-numbers/

After Google have introduced similar features “AdSense program uses geotargeting to serve Google ads to your pages” - https://support.google.com/adsense/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=9720, http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6603

Overall these features might be more beneficial for the user considering that, well, not sure how helpful or useful it is to see ads for services from other country and/or region.

Because, in the end, that is what advertisement is - promote services.

accounting...

if accounting would have had too much time in their hands, they would have done taxes.

off-shore within our shores, with profit sharing, of course.

facebook mobile...

It seems that facebook mobile might need to actually be a lighter version of facebook.

Kind of the same way Google search works in mobile version.

Probably the easiest way to accomplish tha is to let user users decide what they want available on mobile version.

And VentureBeat’s opinion on this: http://venturebeat.com/2012/06/29/google-plus-for-tablets/

fb maps messages...

Just came across some new feature of facebook for Android which is intriguing

In messages, open a conversation and click on the right top corner (Image 1) - facebook will map you (Image 2).

It is a nice feature but I think it would have been more interesting if it would have mapped the other person(s) in conversation.

(Of course if the other person(s) opt in for this).

Geeklist Update: Who is the real Wikipedia founder? → blog.geekli.st

gklst:

It’s often the case that people who dedicate passion and years of their lives to a project get swept under the rug, forgotten or are never given proper credit for their achievements. In a recent Achievement Card posted to Geeklist we learn of Larry Sanger,

How would you like it if would be to use it ?…

In case that “I would not release this under my name or my company name” does not work…

facebook

facebook is a great patform in so many ways

But the purpose of this post is different

A small flaw that I have noticed is that on Android platforms the “Share” functionality does not exist

And maybe enable so to be able to add attachments to Comments.

Dropbox

Right now I am using Dropbox as storage platform for backing up documents projects and have them available at any time

The issue that occurs from this is that, for folders and documents I want to backup or to be available anytime, I have to duplicate them onto the Dropbox folder

I think there are some solutions to this

One might be to be able to have only the link to the folder in the Dropbox folder

Another solution might be, with a better integration between Dropbox and OS, and from an Windows user perspective, to be able to Send to Dropbox. (attached, maybe unnecessarily)

In both cases the user will basically “show the way” and Dropbox will do the rest

Oracle SQL Developer

Oracle SQL Developer is a free graphical tool that enhances productivity and simplifies database development tasks. With SQL Developer, you can browse database objects, run SQL statements and SQL scripts, edit and debug PL/SQL statements, manipulate and export data, and view and create reports. You can connect to Oracle databases, and you can connect to selected third-party (non-Oracle) databases, view metadata and data, and migrate these databases to Oracle.

Financing software projects

Finding financing for one or more software projects might be difficult to find.

But I think there are things that can be done to increase the chances of financing of a software project:

- defining the scope and phases/steps of the projects

- estimate as realistic as possible the cost in terms of time and resources which will translate in financial resources

Having a good estimate in terms of time will allow to know the release date.

And based on the market conditions, trends etc one can estimate the chances of success for that particular project

- with the estimation of the expenses, a good thing might be to have around a good accountant or finance people so to determine whihc of these expenses can be claimed and if there are some grants offered that can be take advantage of.

I think this will help also a presentation to private investors

get directions...

I am using get directions feature from bing or Google a few times a week.

I got so used with it that even when I wanted to book a flight I tried to use it.

And then I thought why not ?

Why not have, among the options offered (“driving,  walking,  transit” by bing or “By car, By public transit, Walking, Bicycling”)  flying/By air or by train ?

I think it might be useful

For once one will have almost all the options of going from point A to point B in one place.

Second it might not be that hard since even when booking a flight or going by train, one enters the From and To coordinates (i.e. http://www.flightcentre.ca/, http://www.viarail.ca/en)
